How to Upload Video on Canvas: A Step-by-Step Guide

In today’s digital age, video content has become an integral part of online education. Canvas, a popular learning management system (LMS), offers a user-friendly platform for educators and students to share and access video resources. Whether you’re a teacher looking to upload a lecture video or a student eager to submit a project, this step-by-step guide will help you upload video on Canvas with ease.

Step 1: Log in to your Canvas account

Before you begin uploading your video, ensure that you are logged in to your Canvas account. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up for one at canvas.instructure.com.

Step 2: Navigate to the desired course

Once logged in, locate the course where you want to upload the video. You can find courses by searching for the course name or browsing through the list of courses on your dashboard.

Step 3: Access the course navigation menu

On the course page, click on the “Navigation” menu (represented by three horizontal lines) to expand the menu options.

Step 4: Select the “Files” option

In the expanded menu, click on the “Files” option. This will take you to the file management page for your course.

Step 5: Click on the “Upload” button

On the file management page, you’ll see an “Upload” button at the top of the page. Click on this button to initiate the upload process.

Step 6: Choose your video file

A file dialog box will appear, allowing you to select the video file you wish to upload. Navigate to the location of your video file on your computer and click “Open” to select it.

Step 7: Configure video settings (optional)

After selecting your video file, you may see additional options to configure the video settings. You can choose to add a title, description, and tags to your video. These settings can help users find and organize your video content more effectively.

Step 8: Click “Upload” to complete the process

Once you have configured the video settings (if any), click the “Upload” button to begin the upload process. Canvas will process your video file and make it available in your course.

Step 9: Embed the video in your course content

After the upload is complete, you can embed the video in your course content. To do this, navigate to the desired page or module in your course and click on the “Add” button to insert a new item. Select “External Tool” or “Embed” (depending on your Canvas version) and paste the video URL or embed code provided by Canvas.

Step 10: Confirm the video is working

Finally, review the video on your course page to ensure it is playing correctly. If you encounter any issues, double-check the video URL or embed code and make any necessary adjustments.

By following these simple steps, you can successfully upload video on Canvas and share your content with students or colleagues. Happy uploading!
